Embodying Identity

Participants leave with a clearer understanding of how identity lives in the body—and how to use that awareness with intention.

Description

Embodied Identity is an 8-session movement-based workshop series focused on body awareness, physical expression, and the discovery of personal or character-driven movement patterns. Drawing from kinesics and movement exploration practices, this series invites participants to examine how identity is expressed, shaped, and revealed through the body.

Through guided exploration and reflection, participants develop awareness of habitual movement choices, physical responses, and nonverbal communication. The work supports both personal discovery and character development, allowing participants to identify their own signature movement patterns—or intentionally craft the physical identity of a character for performance.

Rather than prescribing a specific way of moving, this series emphasizes observation, curiosity, and choice. Participants are encouraged to explore how movement communicates internal experience, emotional truth, and identity, creating a grounded foundation for authentic expression both onstage and in everyday life.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Build foundational body awareness and physical self-observation skills

  • Explore movement habits and patterns as expressions of identity

  • Understand kinesics as a tool for personal and character-based storytelling

  • Discover and articulate individual or character-specific movement signatures

  • Expand expressive range while maintaining authenticity

  • Apply embodied identity work to performance, communication, and self-presentation
